Annual Cincinnati Canstruction Competition

It’s Finally Here! The 22nd Annual Cincinnati Canstruction competition

It is finally here. The 22nd Annual Cincinnati Canstruction competition will be on display from Tuesday, March 26 – Sunday, April 14 at the following downtown Cincinnati locations:

  • The Weston Art Gallery in the Aronoff Center for the Arts (650 Walnut Street)
  • The front lobby of the Aronoff Center for the Arts (650 Walnut Street)
  • The Scripps Center (312 Walnut Street)
  • The Downtown Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County (800 Vine Street)
  • Hyatt Regency Cincinnati (151 West 5th Street)
  • The Center at 600 Vine (600 Vine Street)
  • The PNC Center (250 East Fifth Street)

The teams are committed and their designs are ready. Each team will have five hours to complete the building of their gigantic food structures on Tuesday, March 26.

The 17 teams building Cincinnati Canstruction sculptures this year include:

  • University of Cincinnati – Construction Student Association

On Wednesday, March 27 our celebrity jurors will travel to each location to view the structures and deliberate to choose winners in the following categories:

  • Structural Ingenuity – Awarded for the best use of the math and physics to help the structure defy gravity and stand in position.
  • Best Use of Labels – Awarded for the best variety of cans that helps the design of the structure be articulated by the labels.
  • Best Meal – Awarded for the best variety of cans that would be most useful for a complete, balanced meal.
  • People’s Choice – Awarded for the most votes from the public.
  • Best Original Design – Awarded for the most votes from the jury.
  • Most Cans – This award is give to the structure that used the most cans in the structure.

Winners will be announced on Friday, April 5th at the 22nd Annual Cincinnati Canstruction Awards Gala taking place at the Black Box Theater. Tickets are available here. The winners go on to compete in the international Canstruction competition.

There is no charge for admission, but the public is encouraged to bring canned goods or make a donation to the Freestore Foodbank.

At the close of the exhibit, all of the canned goods are donated to the Freestore Foodbank.
